Titan Cross Country Update - September 18, 2011

DAVIS COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Titans ran tough at the 24th Annual Davis County Championships held Friday at Layton Commons Park. The Boys finished 2nd to Davis (currently ranked 9th in the nation) and the Girls were 5th. The course was 2.75 miles long and the weather was perfect.
Sharlie Dimick had her best race of the year finishing 9th in 18:14. Cheyna Field (18th, 19:22), Rachel Markham (22nd, 19:49), Shelby Cadwell (28th, 20:04) and Lindsey Bailey (29th, 20:09) were the other scorers.
Brandon Yardley ran an aggressive race to finish 9th in 14:54. He was closely followed by Jaxon Hansen (10th, 14:58). Jeff Michel (19th, 15:30), Parker Greenhalgh (20th, 15:35) and Frank Owens (22nd, 15:35) rounded out the scoring. Landon Greenhalgh (2nd, 15:34) and Cody Kelley (6th, 15:51) medaled in the J.V. race. Our 40-second top five split was our best in years.
Complete results of the meet can be found at: www.titanxc2011.blogspot.com.

MURRAY INVITATIONAL
A massive stampede may be the best way to describe the Murray Invitational. With up to 480 runners in many of the races, just surviving the start was an accomplishment. Throw in 50 schools and a little rain and wind, and the result was a memorable afternoon.
The Boys Varsity ran great to finish 6th out of the 47 schools entered in the race. They were 2nd among the 5A schools with Davis capturing the title. Brandon Yardley again led the way as he finished 12th against most of the top runners in the state. His time was 16:31 over the 3.1 mile course. Jaxon Hansen (32nd, 16:57), Mike Russell (45th, 17:14), Jeff Michel (70th, 17:35) and Parker Greenhalgh (81st, 17:41) were the other scorers. There were 312 in the race.
Jeff Reed was our top finisher in the Rookie Boys J.V. race as he finished 43rd while running 19:29. Tom Hill ran great in the Boys J.V. race to finish 14th in 17:54. Cody Kelley was close behind in 33rd place running 18:21. There were 469 finishers in that race.
Sharlie Dimick led the Lady Titans to a 27th place finish as she placed 88th in 20:49. Cheyna Field (152nd, 22:06), Rachel Markham (170th, 22:17), Lindsey Bailey (179th, 22:23) and Erin Kibler (180th, 22:24) rounded out the scoring. Adriana McFarland and Katrina Dunlap were our top finishers in the Girls Rookie J.V. race as they placed 65th and 66th finishing virtually together in 23:33. Katelyn Davidson, Leisha Jones and Mallory Ashby finished close together placing 110th, 113th and 117th. The result was a 13th place finish as a TEAM.
There were many outstanding efforts in the races- many that don’t place high in the standings. What we are striving for is for everyone to continue to improve and put forth the effort- the positive results will happen.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Selected as the Athletes of the Week for week #4 were Cheyna Field and Tom Hill. Cheyna continues to be very consistent and is improving every week. Tom bounced back from what was a little sub-par race on Wednesday to run great at Murray.

GREAT JOB by Haley Busby and Daylyn Johnston in the Top of Utah Marathon. Haley finished in 3:42 and Daylyn in 3:51. Those are some great times for a first-time marathon. Hannah Williams placed 13th at the Montana State Invitational. Her time of 17:51 for the 5k race was #2 for USU.
Great article about Kyle Kelly. Go to the following link and then to page 6. Doesn’t surprise me one bit. http://issuu.com/vinsonmedia/docs/vinson_voice_sep_13
