XC Update - September 11, 2011

SHORT EDITORIAL
Remember!!! Imagine being a daughter/ son, wife/ husband/, mother/ father to one of the more than 3000 who died 10 years ago this weekend. Many lost their lives because of where they were at the time- in the towers, on the plane. Many others lost their lives as they tried to save the victims of the attack. And many more have lost their lives since 9/11 doing what they thought would make the world a better place. The term “hero” is used far too often, but it is certainly applicable when used to describe many incredible people who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

WASATCH INVITATIONAL
GREAT FUN at Soldier Hollow!! 3.0 miles of hills, trails, hills, grass, hills, 5600 ft elevation, more hills, and perfect weather: These factors, along with some great efforts, made for a very challenging and fun race for the Titans. Over 25 schools competed, including many of the top teams in Utah. The meet hosts have not sent final results, so I don’t have any TEAM standings and some individual places.
Leisha Jones was our top finisher in the Girls J.V. finishing 34th in 24:24. She was followed closely by Adriana McFarland (49th, 25:02) and Katrina Dunlap (53rd, 25:11). Mallory Ashby and Becca Jacobsen completed the J.V. scoring.
Jeff Reed was the top placer in the Boys’ J.V. running 20:14 to finish 68th. There were close to 300 in the race. Nate Seffker (20:54), Jared Godfrey (20:58), Brady Cook (21:01) and “Shoeless” Gus Salazar (21:24) rounded out the top five. Mitchell Dill was close behind.
In Girls Varsity, Sharlie Dimick was again our top finisher placing 47th in 22:11. Rachel Markham ran her best race as a Lady Titan to place 69th in 23:17. Cheyna Field (77th, 23:41), Erin Kibler (88th, 24:07) and Shelby Cadwell (94th, 24:19) ran tough races to complete the scoring. Kayla Berryman was also right there finishing in 24:49.
Brandon Yardley continued to run great finishing 20th in 17:15. Jaxon Hansen (33rd, 17:38) and Jeff Michel (40th, 17:49), running his best race of the year, were close behind. Mike Russell (58th, 18:11), and Tom Hill (64th, 18:28) completed the scoring with Frank Owens (66th, 18:29) and Cody Kelley (110th, 19:30) the other varsity runners.
The times were not fast- the rough trails, hills and elevation account for that. The efforts are what count, and they were GREAT!!
I will send out complete results as soon as I receive them. Again, thanks to Kevin Hansen for taking some great pictures- traveling that far to hike the mountains to record some great memories for all of you. His pictures can be found at: http://2011titanxcphotos.blogspot.com/

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Selected as the Athletes of the Week for week #3 were Rachel Markham and Jeff Michel. Both had great races and will be keys to our success this year.

DAVIS DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Davis District Championships will be held Wednesday at Layton Commons Park. All schools from Davis County will be competing. Davis, along with Viewmont, Woods Cross and Bountiful will provide some great competition. And Clearfield has made it a goal to defeat the Titans this year. We don’t want that to happen. A unique feature to this meet: Anyone can run the Open Race after the Boys Varsity. Parents, siblings, etc., are invited to run the 2.75 mile course. The schedule is as follows:
1:45 - Excused from class
2:00 - Bus Leaves
3:30 - J.V. Boys
4:00 - J.V./Varsity Girls
4:30 - Varsity Boys
5:00 - Open Race
5:30 - Awards

MURRAY INVITATIONAL
The Murray Invitational will host all of the top teams in the state. The meet will be run at Murray City Park (5100 south State). The schedule is:

4:00 - Rookie Girls
4:15 - J.V. Girls
4:30 - Varsity Girls
4:45 - Rookie Boys
5:00 - J.V. Boys
5:15 - Varsity Boys

TOP OF UTAH MARATHON
Good luck to Haley Busby and Daylyn Johnston who are running the Top of Utah Marathon Saturday. We may carpool up to Logan and support the ladies- and I’m sure there are several others with Titan connections running.
