Titan XC Update - October 24, 2010
STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Illnesses, injuries, etc., played a part in the TEAM outcome at the State Championships held at Sugarhouse Park Wednesday. Both Boys and Girls finished 12th in the standings. Many of the 14 Titans that competed at State felt a little disappointed in the results, but overall, the efforts were outstanding, though the results were somewhat hampered by the illnesses and injuries.
The most outstanding performance of the meet was Sharlie Dimick finishing 5th to earn First Team All-State honors. Her time of 19:19 was the fastest ever run by a Lady Titan, just nipping Hannah Williams’ 2009 time for the honor. Sharlie joins Hannah and Austin Costley as the only Titans to earn First Team honors. Lindsey McFarland’s 20:56 placed her in 44th. Mikelann Wilcox turned in her best performance of the year to place 72nd in 22:09. Cheyna Field’s 22 57 was good enough to finish 88th. An “under-the-weather” Daylyn Johnston ran 23:03 to place 93rd. Dolly Johanson and Erin Kibler ran very tough to gain some great experience for next year.
The Boys experienced similar problems, but still put in 100% efforts. A sick Jaxon Hansen ran 16:56 to place 36th. Preston Williams was right behind running 16:57. Brandon Yardley’s 17:15 was good enough for 50th place. Frank Owens (79th, 17:47) and Spencer Griffin (93rd, 18:13) rounded out the scoring. Tom Hill and Dylan Rossmango ran well to complete the State TEAM performers.
Of the 14 competing at State, three were seniors and they will be sorely missed in 2011. The efforts and leadership from all of the seniors was great this year. For those returning, it’s up to you to see how far you can take this program next year. The time to start preparing for 2011 is now!!
HOW WAS THE JOURNEY??
For those who may not have reached all of their lofty goals, I hope you can still take a lot of pride in what was accomplished. Remember, it’s the journey that’s so important- more so than the actual goals. It has been a fun and memorable journey for the coaches: hopefully you enjoyed it as much as we did.
ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Mikelann Wilcox- overcame injuries and illnesses to have her best race of the year at State.
XC BANQUET
Tentative: I’m still waiting for final confirmation, but I think our XC Banquet will be Wednesday, November 10th at 6:00 pm at Golden Corral. The cost will be $10. Parents are invited. I’ll get final information ASAP.
FOOT LOCKER
Hopefully we will be able to make a definite decision by the end of this next week about the Foot Locker trip. It looks like we may have enough from other schools to be able to get a bus.
WORKOUTS
It is important to keep up the mileage in preparation for indoor, outdoor and next year’s cross country. Meet each day in the Fitness Center long enough to hook up with a training partner or two for the workout. I will hand out the Foot Locker workouts Monday. It is important that you continue training even if you aren’t planning on going to FL.
