DAVIS/CLEARFIELD/VIEWMONT MEET
It was a great day for a Cross Country meet: if you like rain, wind and mud. It was a good meet to test how tough some runners could be. Most passed the test very well. The Syracuse 3.0 mile home course proved to be more challenging than usual because of the weather. The meet was a good tuneup for Region.
Davis Girls, ranked #23 in the nation, easily won the team title with 20 points. The Lady Titans finished 2nd with 62 points followed by Viewmont (71) and Clearfield (81). Individually, Sharlie Dimick ran very well finishing 3rd in 20:02. Lindsey McFarland (11th, 21:10) and Daylyn Johnston (13th, 22:24) continued their consistent running. Courtney Hamilton sacrificed the first half of her soccer game to place 15th in 23:05. Cheyna Field was our fifth scorer placing 19th in 23:42. Dolly Johanson (23rd, 23:57) and Erin Kibler (26th, 24:13) completed the top seven. Dolly continues to improve and it was good to see Erin have a super race following some tough injuries. Kayla Byrum also ran well for the Lady Titans.
Davis Boys, ranked #5 in the nation, also easily won the team title with a perfect score of 15. Syracuse was 2nd with 57 followed by Clearfield (79) and Viewmont (84). Jaxon Hansen (6th, 16:51) and Preston Williams (7th, 16:59) ran very strong races to pace the Titans. It was good to see Preston returning to his “old self”- just in time for Region. Brandon Yardley (11th, 17:13) and Jeff Michel (12th, 17:34) ran well. Spencer Griffin (21st, 18:32) Tom Hill (23rd, 18:37) and Frank Owens (24th, 18:39) completed the top seven for the Titans. Mike Russell, running his first race of the year, ran great to finish in 18:51.

REGION CHAMPIONSHIPS WEDNESDAY
This is what we have been working for. Realistically, Davis is unbeatable. So the #1 goal is to make it to State (the top five TEAMS qualify), but also shoot for 2nd overall. In the Girls race, it should be a six-way battle for the remaining four spots between Weber, Viewmont, Clearfield, Roy, Fremont and the Lady Titans. Everyone will have to step it up a little to overcome the loss of Taylee Hamblin.
The Boys TEAM race will also be a battle for 2nd and the remaining State slots. The Titans should be in the hunt with Weber, Fremont, Viewmont, Northridge and Clearfield for the State spots. Second place would be a great accomplishment- but a tough one.
Wednesday should be an exciting day. The race schedule is as follows:
3:00 - Girls Junior Varsity
3:30 - Boys Junior Varsity
4:00 - Girls Varsity
4:30 - Boys Varsity
5:15 - Awards Ceremony
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Oct 13- Region One Championships @ Layton Park
Oct 20- State Championships @ Sugarhouse Park
ALUMNI UPDATE
Kyle “the Stud” Kelly ran 3:33 in the Layton Marathon. His time would have been much faster but he set a record for the most “Porta Potty” stops. Great job Kyle. For video of his finish, at least what it must have felt like, go to: http://www.flotrack.org/videos/coverage/view_video/237467-2010-chicago-marathon/359189-amazing-mens-finish-at-2010-chicago-marathon
Hannah Williams had her best performance of the year at Idaho State Saturday. She ran 16:18 over a 4k course to place 9th overall and #3 for USU. McKayla Williams also ran well as the Aggie’s #7 finisher running 17:07. They were the only Titan alums in action this week.
IT’S HERE: REGION!!!
