FOOT LOCKER
What a fun, rewarding trip!! It was great to have so many of you along to watch and compete against the top runners from the 12 western states. Hopefully it will give you the experience and motivation to continue to train hard and set some more lofty goals for yourself and the TEAM.
We’ll get to the running results later. Of course there were many other highlights of the trip besides the races. They include:
30+-hours on the bus- it was great to watch you interact and get to know and relate to each other;
The beach- it always brings out the child in everyone;
Las Vegas- we were a long ways from Syracuse, probably measured in light years, not miles;
The biggest highlight of the trip for the coaches was being part of a group of outstanding young people that did everything asked of them to make the trip a success. THANKS to all athletes and to Coach Wilcox and Mr. Hansen for their help in making the trip a huge success.
Now to the race results. Sharlie Dimick continues to amaze. She finished 3rd in the All-West Freshman/Sophomore race and was the 7th fastest Utahn from all races combined. She ran 19:44 over the very hilly, challenging 5000 meter course. That is the fastest time ever run by a Lady Titan. Jaxon Hansen ran very well to place 17th in the Junior race running 17:29, the #3 all-time Titan time. Preston Williams finished just out of the medals running 17:50 in the Senior race. Coach Wilcox carried the Titan colors with pride running 20:27 in the coaches race. What a stud!!
In other results, there was a common thread: EVERYONE ran hard and competed to the finish. There was no running in “tutu’s”, wigs, Batman getups, etc. We really weren’t concerned about times, just efforts. And the efforts were impressive. The results from the grade races were as follows:
Freshman/Sophomore Girls- Mallory Ashby (26:53), Jordan Anderson (32:44- great job in first distance race ever), Dolly Johanson (24:48), Erin Kibler (28:38), and Paige Ryder (26:21- not broken anymore).
Junior Girls- Cheyna Field (23:45).
Senior Girls- Daylyn Johnston (23:44), Lindsey McFarland (22:41).
Freshman/Sophomore Boys- Tom Lakey (25:01), Tom Hill (19:27), Colten Redford (24:17).
Junior Boys- Spencer Griffin (19:09), Zack Watson (20:43- fastest pole vaulter), Brandon Yardley (18:07), Mike Russell (19:03).
Senior Boys- Weston Atkins (19:14- fastest cross-trainer), Andrew Skidmore (18:47).

PICTURES/VIDEO
I hope to have copies of the XC DVD available before the Christmas break. This is the video many of you saw on the trip to Foot Locker. Drop by my room Friday to pick up a copy. I will also have flash drives with still pictures available to borrow, copy and return. I hope to have them updated with the Foot Locker pictures. Thanks to Rob and Kevin for the photos.
INDOOR TRACK
Try to meet everyday after school in the Fitness Center for your workout. Coach Wilcox will be there to get you going. The key thing for distance during Indoor is MILEAGE!!
GREAT ARTICLE
I’ve attached a great article that was in this month’s Runner’s World. Take some time to read it. I’ll also print out a few copies for you if it doesn’t download properly. Even though the article is about the top three distance runners in the U.S., runners of all levels can apply the same thought processes to reach their goals.
USU CLINIC
If you are interested in going to the USU Indoor Distance Clinic, pick up the info in my room. It will be January 8th. The cost is $30.
