Titan XC Update - September 20, 2010

DAVIS DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS
For the third straight year, the Titans finished second to Davis in both Girls and Boys varsity races at the Davis District Championships held at Layton City Park. This was the 23rd year the meet has been held, and several Titans raced their way onto the All-Time list of top performances over the 2.75 mile course.
Sharlie Dimick again led the Lady Titans as she finished 3rd overall with a time of 17:39. That is just 7-seconds off the time posted last year by Hannah Williams. Not bad company. Taylee Hamblin ran 49 seconds faster than last year placing 7th in 18:00. That is the #3 time ever by a Lady Titan. Lindsey McFarland was 27 seconds faster than 2009 placing 16th in 19:01. Daylyn Johnston had a huge improvement of 1:39 to place 19th in 19:52. Cheyna Field continued her rapid improvement running 20:44 to finish in 25th place. Mikelann Wilcox (20:59) and Dolly Johansen (21:25) rounded out our top seven. It was good to have Mikelann running again even though it was with a great deal of pain. Dolly keeps improving each week and will be joining our top runners soon. Kayla Byrum, Erin Kibler and Mallory Ashby ran gutsy races as they were all hampered by illness and injuries.
Davis won the Girls teamp title with 18 points. The Lady Titans finished with 70 to place ahead of Bountiful (83), Viewmont (91), Woods Cross (116), and Clearfield (153).
For the third week in a row, the Boys had a different #1 finisher. Jaxon Hansen ran a strong race to place 8th overall 14:47. That was :59 faster than last year and the #2 mark ever by a Titan athlete. Preston Williams ran 16 seconds faster than last year finishing 14th in 15:18. Jeff Michel continues to improve rapidly running 15:22 to place 18th. Brandon Yardley’s 15:36 was 14 seconds faster than 2009 and good enough for 19th. Frank Owens and Dylan Rossmango had incredible 2:00 improvements to place 23rd and 27th in 15:46 and 15:56. Tom Hill continued the trend as he ran 1:36 faster to finish 30th. In JV action, Andrew Skidmore ruined Davis’ perfect score as he placed 8th in 16:10. Spencer Griffin (17:03), Parker Williams (17:20, 1:55 faster than last year), Cody Kelley (17:33) and Tyler Weaver (18:14) rounded out the scoring. Colby Johnson (18:18), Brady Cook (18:50), Joshua Lee (19:36), Colton Redford (20:28), Josh Flores (21:17), Tom Lakey (22:17) and Nate Lutz (24:09) continue to work hard and improve.
Davis won the Boys team title with 17 points. The Titans had 82 to edge out Viewmont (86) and Bountiful (88). Woods Cross (116), Northridge (151), Clearfield (192) and Layton (212) completed the scoring teams.

ALUMNI UPDATE
Hannah (18:43) and McKayla Williams (19:27) and Haley Busby (21:42) all ran well at the Montana State Invitational. The course was a tough 3.0 miles in length. Jake Rossmango didn’t race this week and I think Austin Costley is red-shirting because of IT Band problems. Jared Ward, though not an alumni, but definitely a “friend of the program”, ran great at the Riverside Invitational in California. He finished 6th out of over 300 runners covering the 8k course in 24:18. That’s a 4:50 mile pace. And, for those who didn’t already know, he and Erica Christensen (who helped us in Track last year) are engaged to be married in October.

GOOD THOUGHT
"Success means doing the best we can with what we have. Success is the doing, not the getting; in the trying, not the triumph. Success is a personal standard, reaching for the highest that is in us, becoming all that we can be." Zig Zigler
