XC Update - Sept 7

Titan XC Update - Sept 7, 2009

PRE-REGION MEET
The Titans had a great meet Wednesday at the Pre-Region meet run at Layton Commons Park. All of the Region One teams except Weber competed in the meet. Both TEAMS finished in 2nd place behind Davis.
Hannah Williams had a great race and showed she is ready to run against the best in the state. She finished 2nd over the two-mile course running 12:33. The other top Lady-Titan finishers were Kiana Tebbs (13th, 13:39), Taylee Hamblin (14th, 13:40), Abby Rich (16th, 14:00) and Lindsey McFarland (18th, 14:11). There were several close finishes with the Lady Titans getting the best of them resulting in a one-point margin over Fremont for 2nd place.
The Boys 2nd place finish was a result of a great one through five split of 38 seconds. Austin Costley (7th, 10:47), Jake Rossmango (8th, 10:48), Preston Williams (10th, 10:53), Tyrell Pearce (17th, 11:23), and Brandon Yardley (19th, 11:25) ran strong races to ensure the 2nd place finish. Jaxon Hansen (20th, 11:26) and Weston Atkins (22nd, 11:30) were right there to ensure a great grouping for the Titans.
There were several other great performances at the meet. Everyone that ran the two-mile Grass Relays course and the Pre-Region course ran faster Wednesday. And that’s a good sign that we are moving in the right direction.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Chosen as the Athletes of the Week were Sasha Russell and Julian Alvarez. Sasha, who we thought was just running XC to stay in shape for Track, keeps working hard and is going to really help our TEAM. Julian is perhaps the best example on our TEAM of the slogan that “doing your best is more important than being the best”. All he ever does is his best.

GREAT JOB JULIAN!!!
Julian Alvarez decided to run the Huntsville ½ Marathon Saturday. He not only placed 9th overall, but won his age group. His time was 1:37:07. OUTSTANDING!!!

PARENT/ATHLETE NIGHT
Great presentations by Nylin Johnson and Jace Nye. Nylin not only presented some great information concerning running injuries, but also gave some insight about how running has been such a big part of his life. Jace also gave us some valuable tips that will help all become more prepared to compete on a higher level. Sidelight on Jace: He placed 2nd overall Saturday at the USU Cross Country Invitational.
